In today’s world, contentious and ineffective debate is on the rise in professional, political, and personal arenas. It is within this environment we must develop the next generation of leaders to shape the world we want to leave behind.
Emerging leaders need to be able to engage in–even seek out– personal interactions to drive positive change in their careers and personal lives. It’s a skill that is developed and may be more important now than ever.
At the 2019 EPIC Toledo Leadership Summit attendees will gain the skills, insights and resources to take on divisive issues in an effective manner and keep their composure when it matters most.
SESSION SUMMARIES AND SPEAKER BIOS
9:00 am – Keynote
Krishna Pendyala | 2 Days at a Time: Being Consciously Effective
Session: With the global environment’s ever-increasing demand on quality and pace at which we need to conduct business, organizations and individuals simply do not have the luxury of continuing to learn by trial and error. This old-school way can no longer get the results that leaders are looking for in the moment, or long term. Instead they must seek new methods for accelerating the learning curve. Additionally, under the weight of increasing competition, the room for error and the tolerance for bad service are greatly diminished. In his interactive program, 2 Days at a Time: Being Consciously Effective, Krishna offers an alternative to the inefficient trial and error method. He deconstructs one of life’s most overlooked and vital skills: the ability to exercise conscious judgement and make values-based choices at work, home, and everywhere in between.
About: Krishna Pendyala is one of the world’s leading experts on the art & science of judgment & choice-making. His work with Judgment Quotient (JQ) is being recognized as the third intelligence beyond IQ and EQ. Krishna is an author, speaker, and a choice engineer who helps executives, entrepreneurs, and their teams make better choices. For over three decades, he has inspired individuals and teams at Boeing, Carnegie Mellon, UNESCO and UBS, and many others, using his simple, yet practical, frameworks distilled from his varied career experiences. His thought leadership is built on a long career of executive leadership, entrepreneurship, research, and innovation.
His transformational approach to personal and professional development has been featured on TEDx, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Thrive Global, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and Inc. Magazine amongst many others. He is the author of the critically acclaimed book, Beyond the PIG and APE: Realizing Success and True Happiness.

George Kral, Chief of Police, Toledo | Too Quick
Session: In the line of duty, a single moment’s decision can have a life-charging or life-ending result. Toledo Police Chief George Kral sets the scene from when he was a rookie on the force in 1991 and is faced with a decision an officer dreads to make but is forced to make: to shoot or be shot. What happens at the end of this fateful day in his first year on the job still shakes him today.
Twenty-seven years later, now the Chief of Police he’s faced with another life-changing or life-ending situation… an officer involved shooting, and a community lashing back in protest. This time age, maturity, training and the ability to pause impact the outcome.
